Centre issues 38,867 ventilators worth ₹1,851 crores to States

THDNewsDesk: On Tuesday, the government told the Rajya Sabha that Andhra Pradesh (4,960), Maharashtra (4,434), and Uttar Pradesh (4,016) were the States that got the highest number of ventilators from the Central government. In total, 38,867 machines cost ₹, 1,850.76 crores were distributed among the States and Union Territories.

Ashwini Kumar Choubey, Minister of State for Health and Family Welfare, replied to a question in the Upper House that in addition to the amount spent on ventilators, the government got ₹1,540 crores worth PPE coveralls, ₹339 crore worth N-95 masks, and ₹369 crore worth goggles and provided to the States and central institutions.

While the current fiscal, the Centre also issued a particular package of ₹6,310 crores to the States and UTs for Covid-19 urgency and preparation in addition to ₹1,131 crores published under the National Health Mission for Covid-19 pandemic.

The Minister stated, among the health paraphernalia assigned to the States were 432.4 lakh N-95 masks, 178.14 lakh PPE kits, 173 lakh goggles, and 242.1 lakh gloves.

As part of the current inoculation program, the minister further stated about 92.61 lakh health care workers who would be vaccinated against Covid-19, according to the States’ information.
