British ice cream brand Jude’s is making huge vegan-friendly promise. It’s committing to making half its retail range plant-based by 2025.

Jude’s, said to be the first carbon-negative ice cream company in the UK, is set to massively increase its vegan offerings. This is part of an overall carbon reduction plan, though details of all the new editions are yet to released.

Vegan ice cream flavors

Currently, vegan options available include vanilla bean, vegan honeycomb, salted caramel, and chocolate brownie. All are made with an oat base.

And the company’s latest vegan flavor – a limited edition strawberry – will be added to Jude’s custom gift boxes from February 1.

It also offers plant-based cream lollies and mini tubs.

Now, the company promises to make 50 percent of its range plant-based by 2025. This is part of commitments towards a 43 percent reduction in carbon intensity by 2030.

Jude’s Ice Cream

Jude’s, a second generation family ice cream business based in Hampshire, UK, is also a B Corp.

This means it’s part of a movement of companies verified to meet high standards of social and environmental performance, transparency and accountability.

Jude’s has spent over 18 years mastering its craft and worked with some of Britain’s top chefs.

The company has received wide recognition for having innovative flavors and won 60 Great Taste Awards.

Dairy and the environment

Most ice cream is made with dairy cream and milk, which causes more harmful greenhouse-gas emissions than dairy alternatives.

Animals on factory farms, including those used for dairy, produce enormous amounts of methane, nitrous oxide, and carbon dioxide.

According to a University of Oxford study, producing a glass of dairy milk results in almost three times the greenhouse gas emissions of any non-dairy milks.

Jude’s is one of an increasing number of traditional ice cream brands branching out into the plant-based space.

Some others include Magnum, Cornetto, and Ben and Jerry’s who recently released its 20th vegan ice cream flavor in a bid to improve its sustainability metrics and customer choice.
