Small Garden Re-Design – David & Margaret’s Garden

Thought you might like to see my small garden design. Did it myself but had help to lift the pergola beams – otherwise AMOW. Not bad for an 80 year old. Hope we can enjoy it for a few years!
We downsized to this new house in June 2020. The 10m x 7m garden had been done to ‘look nice ‘ with the usual square lawn and surrounding shrubbery etc. There was even a swing seat on gravel at the end of the garden. The builders obviously took the easiest route and there was no specific ‘design’ about it.
I saw your course and did a lot of doodling on paper with straight lines and circles etc. and came up with what you see now. (I used container lids for the circles! )
I tried to do it quite cheaply with secondhand decking, retaining some shrubs and cut down (and improved)the lawn that was already there.
The pergola timber was new from diy store, we filled borders with perennials and annuals and a couple of dwarf fruit trees.
Overall the cost was about £1500 for the timber, trellis, fixings, window boxes, cement, sand, gravel, edging, planting and a few extra slabs to augment the ‘mean’ patio. Furniture was extra of course.
Hard work, but we think worth it and hope other folk my be enthused and inspired by this result!
